Have you ever been to Touch-a-Truck? Every year Lamprey Energy employees give up part of an October weekend to spend a few hours at Pease Tradeport joining members of the public at one of the year’s most fun local events. Touch-a-Truck is hosted by, and raises funds, for the Richie McFarland Children’s Center of Stratham, NH.
In 1971 the Seacoast had no provisions for pre-school kids with special social and therapeutic needs. Thus, a small group of parents came together and opened a nursery school for special-needs children. Today the Richie McFarland Children’s Center (the name was changed from the original ‘Rockingham Children’s Center’ in honor of one of its original students, Richie McFarland, who died in 1974) is located in Stratham and has an additional center in Portsmouth. The organization has come a long way from its early days in the Bixler House in Exeter, but it continues to offer unique opportunities in speech, physical, occupational, and educational therapy to more than 350 families per year.
The Richie McFarland Children’s Center remains a non-profit and hosts multiple fundraising events through the year. Their highest-profile event is Touch-a-Truck, held at the Pease Tradeport and this year celebrating its 10th anniversary. Touch-a-Truck raises an average of $10,000 every year and is a unique fun event for families in and around the Seacoast.
So…when did you last sit in a fire truck? Raise the scoop on a front-end loader? Have you ever played in a garbage truck? Been in the cab of a tractor-trailer? Tooted the horn in an oil truck? Activated the siren in an ambulance or SWAT vehicle? Well now’s your chance. Come to Touch-a-Truck this October 18th (rain date the 19th) at Pease Tradeport 10:00am to 2:00pm and let your inner trucker run wild!
We’ll be there, and together we can support a wonderful cause.
